Western New York Chorale

The Western New York Chorale is the area's oldest vocal chamber ensemble specializing in Early Music (13th to 16th centuries).
The Western New York Chorale, Herbert Tinney, Music Director, strives for excellence in historically-informed performance of a varied repertoire of "holie and worldlie" choral music. The Chorale also distinguishes itself by searching out "hidden treasures", most recently Renaissance and Baroque music from the New World, and little known music from Western New York's rich and colorful history. Inquiries are invited, from singers and others.

CALL FOR SINGERS

During January and February, interested singers are invited to "sit in" for one or more rehearsals (music is provided). If, from that experience, they would like to become a member, the audition process is:
- a voice test, for range and quality (will it "fit" within our sound)
- an ear test (picking notes out of chords and singing them back; a 'good ear' can help offset lesser reading skills)
- a graduated music reading test (to determine reading level)
- singing a familiar song (e.g., a hymn, carol, etc).
- NO prepared solo is required.
These tests provide an indication of whether or not a prospective singer can learn to do what we do.

We strongly believe that a broad variety of community choral ensembles is a vital factor in enriching a community's quality of life. We also believe that the experience of singing in a smaller ensemble like the Chorale can benefit another choral group of which the singer is a member.

The Chorale rehearses on Tuesday evenings, from 7:30 - 10 o'clock, in:
Amherst Community Church (Choir Room)
77 Washington Highway
Snyder
(Washington Highway runs south off of Main Street, across from Daemen College. Parking, and entrance, behind the church. Choir Room, 2nd floor: up stairs to the left; at top, left through double doors; Choir Room door on right.)
